Requirements

  • Windows 10 or later
  • Stream Deck 7.0 or later
  • Windows only (not available on macOS)

Getting Started

  1. Install Date Inserter from the Stream Deck Marketplace.
  2. In the Stream Deck app, find the Date Inserter category in the actions list.
  3. Drag Insert Today's Date onto a key on your Stream Deck.
  4. Click into any text field in the app you want to type in (spreadsheet, note, form, chat, etc.).
  5. Press the Stream Deck key — today's date is pasted into that field.

Tip: Always click the destination field first so it has focus before you press the key.

Changing the Date Format

Each key can use its own date format.

  1. Select the key in the Stream Deck app.
  2. Open the settings panel below (Property Inspector).
  3. Choose a format from the Date format dropdown.

Your choice is saved automatically — there is no Save button. You can also browse all 18 formats in the Property Inspector dropdown and the live reference table in the action settings.

Tips for Daily Use

  • Click the field first, then press the key. If nothing is focused, the date has nowhere to go.
  • Works in most normal text inputs — spreadsheets, documents, forms, chat boxes, and more.
  • The date is based on your PC's local date and time. After midnight, "today" updates automatically.
  • You can rename the key title in Stream Deck if you want a custom label on the button.

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to try
Nothing is pastedClick the text field and make sure the cursor is blinking, then press the key again.
The date goes into the wrong appBring the target app window to the front, click the field, then press the key.
The key shows a warning (yellow triangle)Pasting failed. Check that a text field is focused, then restart the Stream Deck app and try again.
Nothing happens in a password fieldSome apps block pasting into password fields for security. This is expected.
Does not work in an admin appApps running as administrator may not accept input from Stream Deck when it runs at normal privilege level.
My clipboard content changedThe plugin briefly uses the clipboard to paste the date. Anything you copied just before pressing the key may be overwritten.
The format did not changeRe-select the format in the Property Inspector, or restart the Stream Deck app.
Cannot use it on MacDate Inserter is Windows-only.

Uninstalling

  1. Open the Stream Deck app.
  2. Go to Settings → Plugins.
  3. Find Date Inserter and uninstall it.

Any keys that used this action will be removed automatically.

Privacy

Date Inserter runs entirely on your computer. It does not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to HodaPress or any third party. Your date format preference is saved locally by Stream Deck. When you press the key, the plugin briefly uses the Windows clipboard to paste the date into the focused field — nothing is sent over the internet.
